Love Over Lust

$64.00

This art piece by Tamara White, titled "Love Over Lust," is a vibrant and textural expression of the titular emotion. The heart, boldly painted in strokes of pink and red, swirls with an array of other vivid colors, symbolizing the depth and complexity of love. The word "love," playfully inscribed within the heart, serves as the focal point around which the emotion and creativity of the piece revolve.

The tactile quality of the paint, applied in thick, expressive layers, echoes the tactile memories of her grandmother's garden and the whimsical textiles of her acting days. Each brushstroke and color choice is a testament to White's deeply interactive process with her medium, reflecting her belief that each piece is a collaboration between artist and canvas. Created in her Oak Cliff studio, this piece is a celebration of love's triumph over baser instincts, a theme that resonates with the artist's personal narrative and her connection to her surroundings, loved ones, and the act of creation itself.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Tamara White is a physical part of her work. When she was younger, she explored the textures and colors of her grandmother's flower gardens. As she grew, Tamara watched her great-grandmother move charcoal across paper, squiggling delicate houses with bits of color across the page. Tamara went on to study every medium she could get her hands on. Her early acting led to work in textures as she became intrigued with the textiles used on stage, colorful and whimsical. Continuing to be caught up in visuals, watching a story come to life and connect with a person, White transferred into Photography then Advertising.

Tamara returned to her canvas time and time again and so she began working at Abacus, a local Dallas restaurant famous for its collection of fine art and owned by local collectors Kent and Tracy Rathbun, to allow her more free time to create. With oils in hand, Tamara began to approach her canvas, piling on colors, creating work she says is not her own, but collaborations with the canvas. Now, in her studio in the heart of Oak Cliff, surrounded by trees and flowers like her grandmother's garden, the Dallas abstract artist spends her days mostly with her canvases--as well as the love of her life, Barb, with their two rescue dogs and some good wine--adding and scraping away, pushing and pulling, until the two, canvas and artist, decide the work is complete.
